Who would have thought that 20 days after arriving home from our ‘Global Adventure‘, a pandemic would be called and, 18 months later, we would still be grounded!
Carpe Diem
Without a doubt, these past 18 months have taught me to seize the day.
Book that journey. Take that trip. Go out for that coffee.
Write that Book!
Which I did
Based on our 24 country, 57,000 km adventure – ‘Itchy Feet & Bucket Lists‘ provides the full story. It expands on the lessons learnt, ideas and stories behind the blog. If you’re currently starved of travel with your own itchy feet – it’s not only the perfect escape but hopefully will entice and educate on the places visited.
Available in paperback and ebook versions from all major sites – Click Here.
Australian residents only can purchase a signed copy direct from our website (although due to the delivery situation in Australia at the moment -it will take a few weeks to arrive) – Click Here.
Copies will also be available soon from Mullumbimby and Bangalow bookshops.
Introducing Itchy Feet & Bucket Lists
“I’ve pulled the Bucket List back out. Amongst what’s left are the Trans-Siberian Express, the Terracotta Army, the Swiss Alps and the Panama Canal.”
Easy words spoken over breakfast – catalyst for an unforgettable adventure across the steppes of Mongolia, the wilderness of Siberia, Putin’s Russia. Through Europe during winter and over the lonely Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
Commencing in October 2019 and undertaken by author Emma and husband Darryl, the journey will provide lessons on a developing pandemic, Google translate, food poisoning and train accidents. Throw in some goals like having a rum in Barbados, a coffee in Guatemala and guacamole in Mexico; it might even be the cure for their itchy feet.
What Writing Itchy Feet Taught Me
Not long before leaving on our last trip, I was asked if we were worried about not being able to communicate in some of the countries we were visiting. Was I scared about visiting such unknown destinations like Guatemala, Mongolia, Russia and China? I had forgotten the conversation but was reminded of it whilst writing ‘Itchy Feet’. It made me pause and realise that there is really little need to worry about travelling to unknown destinations. The world is smaller than you think – technology is a godsend – things do work out.
Google translate was there to help us communicate – and if it wasn’t – miming worked incredibly well. Accidents on trains and bouts of food poisoning were handled. Travel insurance (not needed this time) always sat reassuringly with us to cover lost luggage, cancellations and myriad other things it covers.
And despite the problems of the world, humans are intrinsically kind- especially to travellers. If we needed help – someone would help.
I Also Found Time To Update My First Book
A Terrible Accident. Forced Retirement. An Excuse to Pull Out the Bucket List!
After a motorbike accident leaves her husband with life-changing injuries, author Emma organises a worldwide adventure based on the contents of an old, laminated bucket list.
It will be the journey of a lifetime, seeking health and ticking off list items: from viewing ancient Petra and treading Greece’s Parthenon to traversing the Suez Canal and hunting down Doc Martin.
Taking seven months and spanning Asia and Europe, this journal, told in mouth-watering and humorous detail, will pull you headlong into the sights, life, culture and beauty of each place visited. It will make you want to follow in their footsteps.
What Else Have We Been Up To?
Like everyone else – probably very little.
New Website
One thing I did do was overhaul our website. It was a challenging, time-consuming project but ultimately rewarding and fun. Have a good look around – any suggestions welcome.
A Recent Day Trip
A few weeks ago, we discovered the funky little town of Tyalgum – a tiny town nestled behind Mount Warning. Never having heard of Tyalgum, it was a complete and happy surprise. With its main street full of gorgeous artisan shops like Flutterbies Cottage Cafe (home of the best high teas outside of England) and a great pub, it’s a place we will no doubt return.
What Next?
So, what does a travel blogger do when they can’t travel. That’s my current dilemma. Any suggestions? I want to continue with this blog and am currently tossing around ideas. I don’t want to become a destination guide like so many other blogs have had to, but maybe I won’t have a choice. Fingers crossed that Australia’s international borders re-open soon. I am itching to start an Egypt and Turkey itinerary. In the meantime – lawn bowls are keeping me busy.
